The story
Schloss Restaurant Venus occupies the ground floor of Nordkirchen Castle, often called the "Westphalian Versailles." The baroque architecture, with its grand halls and views of the palace grounds, creates an atmosphere that feels both historic and alive. The Jupiter Saal and the Oranienburg are among the event spaces, but the main dining room is equally elegant, blending period details with contemporary art.
Patron and creative force Franz L. Lauter has been named among Germany’s 50 best chefs by the Schlemmer Atlas for several years. His cooking draws on French classicism, then adds Mediterranean and Asian touches, always using regional and seasonal organic ingredients. The result is a refined international cuisine that changes with the seasons. A Michelin Recommended distinction (2026) underscores the kitchen’s consistency.
The Venus menu—the restaurant’s signature offering—requires advance ordering, ensuring that every dish is prepared with care. For a more casual visit, the bistro serves hearty fare: Schlossfrikadelle with mashed potatoes and raw vegetable salad, Rinderroulade with kimchi red cabbage and potato dumplings, or vegan Bolognese with penne. Sweet options include waffles with hot cherries and ice cream, and a poppy seed torte made from an old family recipe. The team, led by Franz and Hanna Lauter, is known for warm, attentive service.
The restaurant also hosts themed events such as Krimi-Dinner (murder mystery dinners), and the spaces are available for private celebrations. Dogs are welcome. Whether for a festive dinner, a romantic evening, or a special event, Schloss Restaurant Venus delivers an experience that stays with you.
