The story
Restaurant Flockenwerk in Ochsenfurt has built a steady following for its weekend brunch and evening à la carte service. The building that now houses the venue began life in 1917 as a potato flake factory along the Main river. After a complete structural rebuild, the site opened as a light-filled dining space where original brickwork meets expansive glass fronts. The Schlemmer Atlas recently highlighted this architectural balance when awarding the venue its second cooking spoon.
Andreas Bundschuh guides the culinary program, shifting focus from the site’s industrial namesake to diverse seasonal plates. The kitchen highlights shrimp and braised ox cheeks alongside classic burgers and potato gratin. Starch remains a recurring element in their preparations, adapting from simple flakes into richer accompaniments. Bundschuh oversees daily operations to ensure consistent execution across both lunch and dinner menus.
The venue’s reputation extends well past evening service, particularly through its Saturday and Sunday brunch gatherings. Guests select from an extensive salad buffet before ordering from freshly prepared hot dishes and baked goods. Coffee and cake remain central to the midday routine, drawing visitors who prefer unhurried meals. The open floor plan supports smooth service while maintaining a quiet, residential scale.
