The story
In the small town of Ruderting, just outside Passau, the Buchner family runs a landgasthof that balances tradition with precision. The Michelin Bib Gourmand – awarded for good quality, good value cooking – recognizes exactly this approach. The restaurant describes its cuisine as "gehobene Landgasthofküche" (upscale country inn cooking), built on regional and seasonal ingredients.
The kitchen is led by Markus Buchner, a Küchen- und Restaurantmeister who trained at some of Germany’s most respected addresses: the legendary Aubergine under Eckart Witzigmann in Munich, Feinkost Käfer, and Käfers am Hofgarten. He also worked at the Ente vom Lehel in Wiesbaden and the Hotel Adula in Switzerland. Ingrid Buchner, a Hotel- und Restaurantmeisterin, brings front-of-house experience from the Grand Hotel Rafael in Munich and the Hotel Passauer Wolf. Together, they run the inn with a quiet, hands-on authority.
The dining rooms are part of a working hotel and event space, offering outdoor seating in warmer months. The atmosphere is that of a proper country inn: unpretentious, comfortable, and focused on the plate. Dishes are described as freshly and carefully prepared, often simple in technique but uncompromising on flavor. The menu changes with the seasons, reflecting what is available locally. Parking is on-site.
The Bib Gourmand, represented by the Michelin mascot Bibendum, has been awarded since 1997 and signals reliable cooking at a fair price. For Landgasthof zum Müller, it confirms what regulars already know: this is a place where skilled technique meets honest, local ingredients, without fanfare.
