The story

Weinhaus Zum Ritter in Wertheim: Franconian Country Cooking with Bib Gourmand

Franconian Hospitality at Weinhaus Zum Ritter

In the quiet village of Homburg am Main, near Wertheim, the Weinhaus Zum Ritter has been a fixture of Franconian hospitality since 2004, when the Hausin family took over. The sign outside reads “Gasthaus mit fränkischer Gemütlichkeit” – a promise of warmth and straightforward comfort that the restaurant delivers with every dish.

Chef Thomas Hausin’s Craft

The kitchen is led by Thomas Hausin, a chef whose career traces a clear arc through respected German kitchens: Burgrestaurant Staufeneck, Hirsch Weinstuben in Stuttgart, and the Speisemeisterei in Hohenheim, among others. His skill has been recognised early – he placed first in the Rudolf Achenbach Prize for Baden-Württemberg and third nationally. Since 2006, the Michelin guide has awarded the house a Bib Gourmand for “good quality, good value cooking,” a distinction it has held ever since. Gault Millau has also listed the restaurant since 2008.

What to Expect

The cuisine is country cooking – rooted in Franconian traditions, focused on honest ingredients and careful preparation. The Bib Gourmand seal reflects the balance of quality and price that defines the menu. On pleasant days, the outdoor seating invites guests to linger over a meal in the fresh air. The restaurant also offers a few guest rooms, making it a natural stop for those exploring the Main valley.

Weinhaus Zum Ritter is a place where the cooking speaks for itself, the welcome is genuine, and the value is unmistakable.
