The story

Botanica – Dánszentmiklós | Modern Cuisine, Michelin Recommended

A Chef-Driven Experience

At Botanica, chef Munk Tamás and his team create degustation menus that are as memorable for their presentation as for their flavours. The restaurant, located within Hotel Botanica in Dánszentmiklós, focuses on modern cuisine built around seasonal, carefully sourced ingredients. Herbs from the property’s own fragrant garden add a distinctive freshness to each dish.

Seasonal Degustation Menus

During dinner, only an eight-course degustation menu is offered – a journey through the season’s best produce. The sample menu includes dishes like asparagus with eel and vanilla, baby squid with cauliflower kimchi and almond, cod with fennel and dill, and Mangalica pork with celery and clove. A lunch menu presents a four-course selection, and occasional brunches open to outside guests. Advance reservation is required for all meals.

Premium Pairings and Cocktails

The wine list features over 130 labels from Hungary, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Austria, and the New World, all chosen with care. Guests can opt for a 4, 6, or 7-course wine pairing, or an alcohol-free alternative. The restaurant also offers a curated selection of premium spirits and house signature cocktails, exclusive to Botanica.

Recognition and Setting

Botanica’s commitment to quality has earned it a place in the Michelin Guide’s recommended restaurants for several years, as well as a top 25 ranking in the Hungarian Dining Guide. The atmosphere is refined yet relaxed, making it a destination for fine dining in the Hungarian countryside.

Dánszentmiklós is not exactly the first place tourists usually head, but Botanica is steadily putting this small Great Plain town on the map. A revelation near Cegléd, a romantic boutique hotel hosts a fine dining restaurant. The character of the house is shaped by handcrafted, bespoke furniture made by the owner’s family, and the growing number of guests arriving specifically for the restaurant speaks volumes about the level of hospitality. Under Tamás Munk’s leadership, the kitchen has clearly found itself in excellent hands: the dishes are creative and refined, with the chef taking particular pride in the adjacent Herba House, a herb and spice garden steps from the main building. The 13-course tasting menu is an epicurean adventure, without being anchored to any single culinary tradition. The amuse-bouches set the bar high: the crispy köbe (a Lebanese meatball) with beef short rib and shiitake was outstanding, as was the turbot, which flaked felicitously in the mouth. Desserts are equally strong, with every single element meticulously crafted. The wine list is international, showcasing not only major producers but also many lesser-known wineries, with around twenty wines available by the glass. A penchant for natural and fermented notes is reflected in the non-alcoholic offerings, including house-made ginger beer, kombucha, and tibicos. Specialty coffee is sourced from one of the country’s top new-wave roasters, Casino Mocca. Botanica is an unearthed gem in a region where quality restaurants are few and far between. If it maintains momentum, it might well establish itself at the top table of rural dining destinations in Hungary.
