The story
Káli Fecske brings a globally inspired Hungarian bistro to Salföld, operating just three kilometres from Lake Balaton. The kitchen keeps the menu short and sharp, focusing on bold preparations rather than complex plating. Deep-fried layered pig’s ear arrives in a crisp crust, balanced by bright pink pepper and marinated onions. Venison stew follows, paired with dödölle potato dumplings and a thick rustic sauce built for sopping up every last drop.
Housed in a former village schoolhouse, the dining room balances rustic charm with a relaxed mix of furniture and textures. The space now serves as a broader cultural hub, hosting an art gallery and an open-air stage that draws concerts and film screenings. Eponymous swallows nest beneath the stage eaves, adding quiet life to the evenings. Visitors move between the indoor seating area, a dedicated BBQ garden, and a small playground without ever feeling rushed.
Distinctive plates frame each course, including a giant seashell dish and another marked with intentional bird nibbles that playfully match the venue’s namesake. The beverage program runs longer than the food list, featuring a Badacsony-led wine selection, local pálinka, and light unfussy cocktails. Homemade lemonades and basil cordials round out the non-alcoholic options. Recent inclusion in the Gault&Millau guide confirms how this established Hungarian cuisine has earned its place in the region.
