The story
In the summer of 2015, a small beach buffet opened at the entrance to Zánka’s lakeside strand. Its idea – serve quality food made with local ingredients, no frozen products, no sugary sodas – resonated immediately. By the end of that first season, the few tables had been outgrown. The following year, urged on by regulars, the team moved to a larger space in the Káli Basin and opened Neked Főztem as a proper “gasztrokocsma,” or gastro pub.
The restaurant has been built and refined year by year. The kitchen works with a growing network of local producers, small farmers, winemakers and syrup makers, and the menu changes daily depending on what is available. Dishes might include a rich consommé with cérnametélt noodles and shiitake, crispy-skinned pike-perch with roasted beetroot cream and cashew, or a classic Hungarian breaded veal cutlet with mayonnaise potatoes. An Angus rib-eye comes with homemade chimichurri. Desserts like sült túrógombóc (fried cottage cheese dumplings) with sour cream and fruit ragout keep things firmly rooted in local tradition.
Neked Főztem has been consistently ranked among Hungary’s top 100 restaurants, and its recognition with a Michelin Recommended award in 2026 confirms what regulars have known for years. The atmosphere is relaxed and family-friendly, with a garden terrace and a sunset view over Lake Balaton. The restaurant welcomes children and pets, offers gluten-free options, and stays open Thursday through Monday from noon to 10 pm.
