The story
Ma.Ri.Na. opened its doors in the small town of Olgiate Olona, just outside Busto Arsizio, when Nonna Carolina and Nonno Angelo decided to build a new future far from their native Bergamo. Their daughter Rita and grandson Giorgio now carry the flame, renewing the restaurant every day while staying true to the roots and values that shaped it. The name itself – Ma.Ri.Na. – is a tribute to the family: Marisa, Rita, Anna.
Rita Possoni never attended a cooking school. After taking over the kitchen, she built her craft through instinct and hard work. In November 1997, a string of telegrams arrived at the restaurant – a rarity in the pre‑email era. She hesitated to open them, fearing bad news. Her brother Pino urged her to read the first one. It was from Gualtiero Marchesi, congratulating her on her first Michelin star. That moment marked the beginning of a long and steady relationship with the guide: Ma.Ri.Na. still holds a Michelin Recommended award today.
The cuisine is seafood, pure and focused. The foundation is tradition – recipes and techniques passed down through the family – lifted by a modern touch that brings freshness and precision. A review from Il Golosario called a dinner here “one of the best of the year,” praising the clarity and intensity of the ingredients. Dishes are built around the sea, but the approach is never showy: just rigorous sourcing, clean execution, and deep flavour.
The dining room has been refreshed, but the atmosphere remains warm and unpretentious. Air conditioning, outdoor seating, and private party options make it suitable for many occasions. Vegetarian and gluten‑free diets are also catered for. The setting – a piazza in Olgiate Olona, with easy parking nearby – adds to the sense of a quietly accomplished neighbourhood restaurant that happens to deliver world‑class cooking.
