The story
In the small town of Fagnano Olona, just outside Busto Arsizio, the Menzaghi family runs a restaurant that has earned a Michelin Recommended distinction. The team — Luisa, Vittorio, Paolo and Maria — describes themselves simply as restaurateurs by passion, and that spirit is evident in every detail of the dining experience.
Menzaghi’s menu reflects a modern cuisine that respects seasonal ingredients. Starters range from a raw seafood salad to an Albese beef tartare with honey mustard, wild rocket and Grana Padano. Among the primi, homemade tagliolini with egg yolk and Parmigiano Reggiano cream, topped with black summer truffle, sits alongside a chickpea cream with pink Mediterranean prawns. The tortelli filled with ricotta and lemon, served with asparagus and bottarga, is another standout.
Secondi continue the seasonal theme: boiled seafood, stuffed squid with tomato cream and marinated courgette, pork ribs with pepper ketchup and red cabbage, and a pink magatello of Piedmontese scottona with its own sauce and tuna sauce. A cheese selection with jams and honey rounds out the savoury options, and desserts include a vanilla mousse with peach compote and crumble, a brownie with apricots and dark chocolate mousse, and their own tiramisù.
The restaurant also offers a weekday lunch menu from Wednesday to Friday, featuring dishes like potato gnocchetti with sausage ragù, orecchiette with fresh tomato and courgette, and meat rolls with spinach. The space itself is understated and comfortable, letting the food speak. Coffee lovers will appreciate the selection of single-origin coffees.
Menzaghi’s Michelin Recommended status is a fitting nod to the family’s dedication. It is a place where modern seasonal cuisine is served with genuine warmth — no fuss, just well-executed dishes that highlight the best of each season.
