The story
In the heart of Tisens, near Gargazzone, Zum Löwen has been reimagined while keeping its heartfelt soul intact. Luis and his daughter Elisabeth now carry forward the traditions established by the late Anna Matscher, a celebrated chef whose spirit remains at the core of the house. Her legacy lives on in every plate.
The kitchen is helmed by two cooks who trained under Matscher, bringing handcrafted precision, creative lightness, and a fine instinct for flavour. Their approach combines regional products with international influences, staying close to the seasons and to the herbs grown in the garden right outside. The result is food that is both rooted and refined—a modern take on classic cuisine.
Evenings at Zum Löwen are built around the pleasure of wine and food together. Guests can choose from a glass of wine paired with exquisite à la carte dishes or opt for a composed four-course menu with wine accompaniment. The menu changes to reflect the best of each season, and the kitchen emphasizes high-quality, local ingredients.
The setting weaves old and new into an inviting whole. Whether seated in the main dining room, the Löwensaal, or the inner courtyard during warmer months, the atmosphere is warm and grounded—made for lingering. The restaurant also boasts an interesting wine list, and outdoor seating is available.
Beyond the nightly dining, Zum Löwen offers spaces for private parties and catered events. Whether a milestone birthday, a company celebration, or a wedding, the team welcomes groups of all sizes, even opening for special lunch bookings for parties of ten or more from Wednesday to Saturday. A personal gift voucher or the dedicated “Junglöwen” four-course menu for guests aged 15 to 21 (priced at „age times two“) make for thoughtful presents.
Zum Löwen is a Michelin Recommended restaurant where warmth, craft, and memory meet on every plate. Dinner is served from Wednesday to Sunday, with advance reservation recommended.
