The story
Il Paguro sits on an expansive terrace directly overlooking the beach of Cala Capra, on the northern coast of Sardinia. The restaurant is part of the Hotel Capo d’Orso estate, but it welcomes outside guests too – and for those arriving by sea, there is complimentary mooring for yachts up to 60 metres at lunch.
The kitchen focuses on the flavours of the Mediterranean, with an emphasis on seafood. The catch of the day drives the menu, and a live crustacean tank ensures the freshest possible shellfish. Dishes draw on local island traditions and Gallurese recipes, adapting them with a contemporary touch. The restaurant’s recent recognition in the Michelin Guide 2026 (Recommended) and the Gambero Rosso Guide 2025 reflects the quality of this approach.
Whether for lunch or dinner, the setting is central to the experience. The terrace is shaded by ancient olive and juniper trees, with the sea and the islands of the La Maddalena archipelago visible from every table. The restaurant is open for à la carte dining, and the menu changes with the seasons, using ingredients from local producers – a philosophy the hotel calls “Genuine Local Food Oriented®”. Gluten-free and lactose-free options are available, and the kitchen is part of the Italian Celiac Association’s programme for celiac-safe dining.
For those seeking a more romantic or intimate evening, the hotel also offers l’Île Flottante, a wooden platform floating just above the water, where a dedicated menu is served (by reservation). And for a casual meal, the nearby pizzeria L’Approdo bakes wood-fired pizzas using pruned branches from the estate’s trees.
Il Paguro is a place where the sea and the land meet on the plate, served with a view that is impossible to replicate.
