The story

Peperosa in Lucca: A Decade of Tuscan Cuisine and a Michelin Recommendation

A Passionate Decade in Piazza dell’Anfiteatro

For ten years, Peperosa stood as a deliberate counterpoint to the tourist-driven dining of Lucca’s most famous square. Simona and Pietro opened the restaurant with a clear ambition: to offer authentic, carefully prepared Tuscan cuisine and Modern Cuisine in a setting that often prioritised volume over quality. Their efforts were not easy, marked by relentless work and the challenges of the pandemic, but they remained steadfast in their vision.

Recognition and Legacy

The restaurant’s commitment to quality was recognised by the Michelin Guide, which included Peperosa among its recommended restaurants. This acknowledgement was a testament to the dedication that Simona and Pietro poured into every dish. In their own words, the recognition proved that “quality, commitment, passion, and a bit of ambition eventually pay off.”

A Bittersweet Farewell

In late 2024, the couple announced the difficult decision to close Peperosa. They cited the increasing pressure of seasonal tourism and a desire to return to their family in Bologna. Their farewell message, posted on the restaurant’s website, expressed gratitude to the guests who rediscovered the pleasure of dining well in Piazza dell’Anfiteatro. While the restaurant is no longer open, the memory of its refined Tuscan cuisine and the warmth of its hospitality endures.
