The story
Since 2009, executive chef Angelo Pumilia has led the kitchen at La Foresteria, the restaurant of Planeta Estate in Menfi. His cooking is built on two distinct influences: a deep connection to his birthplace, Sciacca, and the refined precision of Japanese cuisine, honed through his role as Chef Counselor for Prior Holding in Japan. This fusion creates a contemporary Sicilian style that is both rooted in tradition and constantly evolving.
The menu is conceived as a journey through the Sicilian landscape, from the rugged vineyard paths to the Mediterranean Sea. Two tasting paths are offered: “Casa Planeta” presents five iconic family dishes, such as the Melanzana Ammuttunata and the Pastizzu di Sustanza, while “Estate” reflects the chef’s ongoing research, with dishes like Tubetti con Tenerumi and Pasta cu l’Anciova. An à la carte selection and a shorter three-course option are also available. Every plate draws on local ingredients: herbs from the garden, meats from nearby farms, and the day’s catch.
Dining at La Foresteria means sitting among the vineyards of the Planeta wine resort, with views that stretch to the sea of Menfi. The atmosphere is relaxed yet elegant, with outdoor seating that lets guests soak in the Sicilian countryside. The wine list, called “Repertorio 1694,” offers a deep vertical collection of Planeta wines alongside a curated selection from friends and colleagues.
La Foresteria’s Michelin Recommended status speaks to its consistent quality and the harmony between place and plate. The restaurant’s commitment to sustainability – from its kitchen garden to partnerships with local producers – ensures that every meal is an authentic taste of contemporary Sicily, grounded in the traditions of the Planeta family.
