The story
In the historic town of Nola, near Naples, Re Santi e Leoni brings a deeply personal vision of contemporary Italian cuisine to the table. Chef Francesco Nunziata, a native of Nola, has shaped a restaurant that feels both grounded and inventive—a place where memory, technique, and a profound respect for the Campanian landscape converge.
The name itself hints at a layered experience: three tasting menus called Re, Santi, and Leoni guide guests through seven, nine, or eleven courses, each one a study in balance and lightness. For those who prefer to compose their own meal, a well-considered à la carte selection offers four antipasti, four primi, four secondi, and five desserts. Every dish, whether from the set paths or the carte, shares the same philosophy: a celebration of local ingredients, sourced from a network of twenty small producers who embody the region’s agricultural richness.
Nola’s geography is key here. Sitting between the sea and the Irpinia mountains, the town grants chef Nunziata access to an extraordinary range of raw materials. His cooking is defined by rigorous technique applied with restraint—creations that are visually elegant, yet never overstated. As he puts it, cooking is a form of communication, and his plates speak clearly of place and season.
The wine list is equally thoughtful, featuring a curated selection of Campanian labels alongside international bottles, chosen to complement the kitchen’s refined, contemporary cuisine. The restaurant’s Michelin star, awarded in 2026, recognises the precision and sincerity of this approach: high-quality cooking that remains true to its roots while reaching for something new.
Re Santi e Leoni offers a dining experience that is at once sophisticated and welcoming—a place where the flavours of Campania are translated with clarity, creativity, and quiet confidence.
