The story
In September 1992, Mauro, a dissatisfied banker with a passion for cooking inherited from his mother, convinced his wife Anna Rita to leave her life as a housewife and open a restaurant in Orvieto’s historic center. With a beautiful garden and a central location, I Sette Consoli was born. Anna Rita turned out to be a natural cook, with a light, sure hand that satisfies both the eye and the palate. Since 2012, their daughters Serena and Chiara have joined the family venture, ensuring the restaurant’s warm, personal welcome continues.
The kitchen at I Sette Consoli is deeply tied to Umbria. They describe their food as “the tale of the Umbrian landscape and our passions.” It is not cerebral or forcedly innovative. Instead, the focus is on what the land gives, prepared with the right techniques at the right moment. The greatest compliment they receive is for their consistent high quality over time—a philosophy that has earned them a place in the Michelin guide. Those who return know exactly what to expect: thoughtful, modern cuisine grounded in seasonal ingredients.
The restaurant’s welcome is old-fashioned in the best way: starched tablecloths, polished silverware, a sense that the journey begins at the table. The menu, curated by Anna Rita, changes with the seasons. A tasting menu, called “La proposta di Anna Rita,” might include a soft egg with roasted tomato cream and burrata, cannelloni stuffed with salt cod, asparagus and peas, or tagliolini with lamb ragù. Those who prefer to choose from the à la carte will find dishes like pigeon in casserole with foie gras and cherries, or a saddle of rabbit stuffed “porchetta-style.” The wine list is substantial, with around 900 labels from around the world, including local Umbrian and Orvieto DOC offerings.
