The story
On via Bartolo, a narrow street behind the cathedral, Il Giurista takes its name from the street’s most famous resident: Bartolo da Sassoferrato, a celebrated 14th-century jurist who died in Perugia in 1357. The name is a nod to local history, but the kitchen looks forward.
The restaurant describes its cooking as traditional Umbrian cuisine, revisited. This is classic cuisine – rooted in the region’s ingredients and techniques, but not bound by them. The menu changes with the seasons, and the kitchen works with a farm-to-table sensibility, sourcing carefully and letting the quality of the raw materials lead.
The dining room is elegant, with a warmth that suits both a long lunch and a formal evening. In warmer months, outdoor seating is available on the street, placing you right in the life of the historic centre. The wine list is curated, with a strong selection of regional and national labels.
Il Giurista has been a fixture in the Michelin Guide since 2023, earning a Recommended distinction for 2026. The recognition is well placed: the cooking is precise, the setting is refined, and the sense of place is unmistakable. For anyone seeking a serious meal in Perugia, this is a clear address.
