The story
Since 2006, L'Officina has occupied a historic space on Borgo XX Giugno, naming itself after the idea of an artisan workshop. It is not simply a restaurant; it is a laboratory of sensory experiences where contemporary Italian cuisine, art, and culture converge. The walls serve as an evolving gallery for local and international artists, while the kitchen tells the story of the Umbrian territory in a modern, sustainable language. This distinctive concept has earned L'Officina a place among Michelin's recommended addresses.
Chef Joannis Karakousis, founder and soul of L'Officina, brings a Greek passion for hospitality to the heart of Umbria. His cooking respects tradition while speaking a contemporary idiom, focusing on local, seasonal ingredients. Nearly twenty years into this journey, his cultural restaurant has become a reference point for those seeking a gastronomic experience that goes beyond the plate — a place where dining means immersing oneself in beauty, culture, and conviviality.
Wine is central to the experience. The cellar holds over 1,000 labels, chosen with the same care that goes into the kitchen. The selection spans organic and biodynamic bottles from the Arké project, Italian and international classics, and rarities for connoisseurs. Guests can also enjoy an aperitivo degustazione — twelve small kitchen offerings paired with wines — served Tuesday through Saturday from 18:30.
Two degustation paths showcase L'Officina's seasonal, modern Italian cuisine. The Origins menu (€45) is a six-course vegetarian journey, described by the chef as "custodians of a territory," featuring dishes like pennoni pasta with seasonal asparagus and a portokalopita dessert. The Life menu (€55) spans seven courses, including tuna variation, Umbrian guinea fowl with lentil caviar, and a peanut parfait. An à la carte option allows guests to compose their own experience across four categories. All menus shift with the seasons and can accommodate dietary needs.
Recognized by Michelin for its singular blend of art, culture, and author cuisine, L'Officina remains a place where every detail is crafted to stimulate the senses — from the books and art on the walls to the flavors on the plate.
