The story

La Ciambella, Rome – Michelin-Recommended Bar à Vin with Kitchen near the Pantheon

A Roman Bar à Vin with Kitchen

A few steps from the Pantheon, La Ciambella has been a fixture since 2016. The name refers to the street itself, via dell’Arco della Ciambella, and the space is anything but a typical Roman trattoria: a large, light-filled room with an open kitchen and a counter where you can settle in for a quick bite or a leisurely meal. The atmosphere is relaxed and professional, with generous table spacing that allows for intimacy.

Chef Francesca Ciucci and Sommelier Mirka Guberti

The restaurant is the dream of two women: chef Francesca Ciucci and sommelier Mirka Guberti, who are also partners in life. Ciucci is Roman by birth and self-taught, drawing inspiration from the city’s markets and her own roots in Trastevere, Testaccio, and Tor Marancia. Her cooking is grounded in the ingredients of Lazio — guanciale, pecorino, artichokes, puntarelle, offal — but she approaches them with a modern, delicate hand. Guberti, originally from Emilia, inherited her passion for wine from her grandfather. She travels widely to discover new producers and curates a list that ranges from local labels to French and international bottles, all chosen to complement the food.

Italian Cuisine, Revisited

“On the road to tradition, in our own way,” is the motto. The menu is an evolving journey through Roman and Italian classics, reimagined without losing the authenticity of taste. Expect dishes that honour the past while feeling fresh and precise. The kitchen’s skill has earned La Ciambella a Michelin recommendation, a recognition that reflects both the quality of the cooking and the warmth of the service.

A Wine Bar That Invites Discovery

With an interesting wine list and knowledgeable staff, La Ciambella works equally well for a glass at the counter, a full tasting menu with pairings, or a private party. The restaurant’s commitment to hospitality, dedication, and fun — as Ciucci and Guberti describe it — makes every visit feel personal. Whether you come for lunch or dinner, you leave with the sense that you’ve experienced Rome from a slightly different, more thoughtful angle.
