The story
At Trattoria del Pesce in Rome’s Portuense district, the philosophy is rooted in the daily rhythm of the sea. Owner and director of dining Federico Circiello personally selects the fish each morning from Lazio’s fishing ports, ensuring only the freshest catch reaches the kitchen. The result is a menu that changes with the seasons, offering everything from blue fish to crustaceans and raw preparations, all reflecting the bounty of the Mediterranean.
The kitchen transforms this pristine seafood into dishes that are both visually refined and deeply flavourful. While the restaurant calls itself a trattoria, the plates carry a modern sensibility—clean, beautiful, and full of taste. The wine list, curated by Circiello (a professional sommelier), complements the menu with national and international labels chosen in harmony with the kitchen’s output.
Circiello’s career spans prestigious rooms: Rome’s Hotel De Russie, London’s Apsley Restaurant under Heinz Beck, and Paris’s Plaza Athénée with Alain Ducasse. In November 2011, he opened Trattoria del Pesce, bringing his experience to a more intimate, welcoming setting. The restaurant’s commitment to quality has earned it a place among Rome’s top eight seafood restaurants as recognised by the Michelin Guide, which awards it the “Recommended” distinction. This is not a luxury, globalised space but a genuine Roman seafood trattoria—one that invites you in with the honest appeal of just-caught fish, prepared with intelligence and care.
