The story
At Lorelei, the setting is as compelling as the food. The terrace stretches out over the water, where the Bay of Naples and Mount Vesuvius command the horizon. By night, the volcano’s distant glow and the sea breeze set a scene that feels both timeless and intimate.
Born in 1989 with Neapolitan roots, Executive Chef Ciro Sicignano earned Lorelei its first Michelin star and has held it ever since. His cooking is grounded in a simple conviction: “Real innovation is the respect of tradition.” He visits producers and villages to understand the character of the land, then translates that knowledge into Mediterranean cuisine that honours the past while feeling thoroughly modern. The result is a menu that celebrates the raw materials of Sorrento and Naples – ancient flavourful dishes revisited with technique and clarity.
Lorelei offers an à la carte menu, a five-course tasting menu, and an eight-course “Lorelei” menu that changes daily according to the chef’s inspiration. Every dish reflects the gifts of land and sea: local vegetables, seafood, and meats prepared with a lightness that lets the ingredients speak. The kitchen accommodates vegetarian, vegan, and other dietary needs with advance notice. All menus shift with seasonality, so each visit brings something new.
Descend into the lower level of the hotel and you find a cellar set within a monumental Roman aqueduct that once supplied water to the city. Here, more than 1,000 labels – classic Italian bottles alongside international and niche wines – are stored in a space where history and modernity merge. The sommelier pairs each selection to the dishes, guiding guests through a journey that complements the kitchen’s Mediterranean focus.
Lorelei’s Michelin star affirms what the restaurant has always been: a place where tradition, technique, and a breathtaking location come together without pretence. The flavours are rooted in the region, the view is pure Sorrento, and the experience is quietly memorable.
