The story
In the small town of Obervintl, at the beginning of the Pustertal valley in South Tyrol, a very personal dining experience awaits. Restaurant La Passion has been a destination for gourmets since 2003, and its reputation has only grown. The Michelin guide has recommended it, a fitting recognition for the work of chef and owner Wolfgang Kerschbaumer.
The setting is as unusual as it is charming. The Kerschbaumer family’s gourmet restaurant is housed in a cozy 16th-century farmhouse parlor, seating just five tables. It feels less like a formal restaurant and more like being welcomed into a friend’s home. On warm days, the small garden offers a perfect spot for an aperitif or to enjoy the menu outdoors.
Wolfgang Kerschbaumer is the heart of the kitchen. The son of a baker, he discovered his passion for cooking early. After training and gathering experience in various gourmet and Michelin-starred restaurants, he and his wife Helena opened their own place. He previously ran the “Ansitz zum Steinbock” in Villanders for 13 years, earning wide acclaim. In his tiny five-square-meter kitchen, he works alone, preparing each dish fresh to order. His cooking is described as classic Italian cuisine with a strong Mediterranean character and thoughtful creativity. Guests can expect ambitious, aromatic dishes where simplicity approaches perfection.
Helena Kerschbaumer is the warm and competent host, managing the service with a friendly smile. The entire experience is marked by a genuine, family atmosphere. Whether you come for lunch or dinner, a reservation is strongly advised at this intimate spot. The restaurant also accommodates smaller groups of up to 30 people for private celebrations, making it a versatile destination for classic Italian cuisine in the heart of South Tyrol.
