The story
Alex Ristorante Enoteca, in Marina di Pietrasanta near Viareggio, has earned Michelin’s Recommended distinction for its serious, ingredient-driven cooking. The kitchen’s philosophy is simple: “the quality of the ingredients and a serious selection of raw materials and suppliers.” That means a menu that changes with the season, drawing on the rhythm of the land and the sea.
The à la carte menu is built around the freshness and variety of local fish, with a refined raw-fish selection. For those who prefer the land, there are first courses such as tagliatelle with 40 egg yolks and duck sauce, or a classic risotto cheese and pepper. Second courses include pork cheek and duck breast. All desserts are made in-house.
Three tasting menus are available year-round: “I Nostri Classici” and “Profumo di Terra” (five courses each) and “Tradizione in Evoluzione” (six courses). They reflect a Mediterranean sensibility with Italian, French, and Spanish influences.
The wine list is a major draw. It holds about 300 Italian labels and 150 foreign ones, with a focus on organic and biodynamic producers from small, quality-driven wineries. The selection includes rare French bottles from Bordeaux and Burgundy—Château Petrus, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, and others—stored in a temperature- and humidity-controlled cellar. A wide choice of distillates rounds out the offer.
Alex’s Michelin Recommended status confirms what regulars already know: this is a place where careful sourcing and precise execution come together, whether you order from the à la carte or let the tasting menu guide the evening.
