The story
At La Biographie… in Kyoto, chef Masahiro Takimoto builds his cooking around a simple, demanding principle: understand each ingredient, treat it without stress, and heat it at the temperature it prefers. The result is a French cuisine that feels both precise and gentle, where the character of the produce is never lost.
The restaurant’s name hints at a life story written through food. Takimoto sees himself as a link in a long chain of chefs who have passed down technique, spirit, and an aesthetic sense. Now, he says, it is his turn to transmit that legacy to the next generation.
There is no à la carte here. The menu is an omakase course, changing with the seasons. Takimoto works directly with producers who grow and catch with passion, and he approaches each ingredient as a gift from the sea, the land, and nature itself. His philosophy of cooking – applying heat in a “comfortable temperature zone” for each ingredient – allows him to draw out maximum flavour while keeping the dish balanced.
Lunch is served on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays; dinner runs from Wednesday to Sunday. The restaurant also accommodates vegetarian and vegan guests on request. Every space, including the dining hall and powder room, is barrier-free with gentle slopes.
In the Michelin Guide Kyoto/Osaka 2026, La Biographie… retained its star. Chef Takimoto thanked his guests, producers, and suppliers for their continued support and promised to keep pushing forward on his culinary path. The award is a quiet confirmation of what the kitchen has been doing all along: cooking with sincerity, season after season.
