The story
Barents Cocktail & Seafood Bar brings an explorer’s spirit to Riga’s dining scene. The kitchen works with fishermen, hunters, and farmers they know by name, sourcing treasures from the Northern seas, Baltic forests, and seasonal countryside. Ancient cooking methods—smoking, fermentation, marination—are used with a modern touch, uniting past wisdom with present possibilities. The result is a menu built on the very essence of each ingredient, with unexpected presentations that reveal new depths of flavour.
Head Chef Artūrs Trunkuns describes his approach: “Gastronomy is how I understand the world and nature—how I perceive nuances that slip by unnoticed in daily life. With each dish, I strive to highlight the flavours of Northern landscapes and culinary traditions—with fresh perspective and respect for where we come from.”
The eight-course tasting menu is the restaurant’s signature message, presenting wild gifts from the North. For guests who prefer a shorter evening, the most brilliant flavour stories are offered across three courses. The wine list, curated by Sommelier Nikita Zaichenkov, focuses on cooler climate wines that pair naturally with cold-water seafood and vegetables. House-made kombucha and non-alcoholic cocktails are also available.
The Cocktail & Seafood Bar, dressed in restrained elegance with ocean-deep tones, serves classics and signature cocktails with Nordic character. Head Bartender Edgars Krastiņš crafts drinks where the Northern character is clearly felt. The bar is ideal for a pre-theatre stop or an informal evening.
Six seats at the black oak counter offer a front-row view of the kitchen’s harmonious interplay. This is where the restaurant’s essence reveals itself fully—mastery from which innovation is born. It is an experience for those who want to see every detail of the cooking process.
In 2026, Barents was awarded the Michelin Recommended distinction, a testament to its consistent, high-quality cuisine and the internationally recognised team behind it. The restaurant’s commitment to local, seasonal ingredients and sustainable practices shines through every dish, making it a standout destination for seafood in Riga.
