The story
Albergue 1601 brings traditional Portuguese cuisine to the heart of Macau's St. Lazarus Quarter, one of the best preserved historical neighbourhoods in the city. The moment you arrive, the Portuguese-style homes and winding alleyways evoke the feel of Lisbon, setting the stage for an authentic dining experience.
The restaurant occupies one of three buildings within the Albergue da Santa Casa da Misericordia complex, a site that has sheltered those escaping war and personal uncertainty. Today, the courtyard is shaded by two towering camphor trees, planted when they stood less than ten feet tall, now soaring above the buildings. Guests are encouraged to explore not only the authentic cuisine but also the heritage of the space itself.
Executive Chef Pedro Almeida leads the kitchen, preparing a traditional menu that pairs beautifully with a wide selection of wines from some of the finest regions of Portugal. The Portuguese cuisine here is rooted in classic preparations, served in a setting that honours the building's layered past.
