The story
At De.Wan 1958 by Chef Wan, Malaysian cuisine steps into a refined, contemporary light. This is the vision of Datuk Redzuawan Ismail—better known as Chef Wan, Malaysia’s first celebrity chef and culinary ambassador—alongside award-winning entrepreneur Andre Shum. Located on Level 2 of The LINC KL in Taman U Thant, the restaurant is a deliberate stage for the country’s rich food heritage.
The concept is rooted in Chef Wan’s decades-long quest: to showcase the depth of Malay cooking, from street food to royal-inspired dishes. Every plate is an episode, fusing traditional techniques with modern creativity. The kitchen, led by Executive Brand Chef Zabidi Ibrahim under Chef Wan’s guidance, draws on flavours from across Malaysia’s regions—north to south, sweet to tangy, spice-laden and deep. It is a cuisine that speaks to the country’s diverse food cultures, presented here as casual fine dining.
The setting is equally considered. Inspired by British colonial heritage interiors, the space pairs lush greenery—The LINC itself is built around nature—with a tropical palette that reflects Chef Wan’s warm, cheerful character. It is a backdrop designed for conversation, where intimacy is the point. The restaurant can host up to 450 seated guests, but the feeling remains personal.
This approach has earned De.Wan 1958 a Michelin Bib Gourmand award, a recognition of good quality, good value cooking. It is a fitting nod to a restaurant that treats Malaysian cuisine not as a novelty but as a living history—and invites every guest to be part of the story.
