The story
Roti by d’Tandoor is the flagship outlet of the D’Tandoor Group, Malaysia’s first and largest North Indian food franchisor. Located on Jalan Damai, off Jalan Ampang in Kuala Lumpur, this restaurant has earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand award for good quality, good value cooking—a recognition that speaks to its consistency and dedication to authentic Indian cuisine.
The story of D’Tandoor began in 1984 with founder Abdul Malik Abdullah, a determined young man from Penang who worked in restaurants around Kuala Lumpur and Selangor before pursuing a Diploma in Business Management in Sydney. He returned to Malaysia in 1993 and opened the first D’Tandoor in Damansara Utama with co-founder Tan Hun Kim. What started as a single restaurant has grown into a group of 15 outlets across the country.
The menu at Roti by d’Tandoor is a thorough exploration of North Indian cooking, from tandoori specialities to rich curries and biryanis. Signature dishes include the Murg Mussalam Akhbri, a chicken stuffed with marinated minced mutton, egg, basmati rice and dry fruits, and the Raan Sikandri—a whole mutton leg slow-roasted to perfection and meant for sharing. The Nawabi Mixed Tandoor offers a chef’s selection of chicken, fish, prawns and sheesh kebab. Breads range from classic plain and garlic naan to stuffed varieties like the Maharaja Naan with minced chicken and sesame.
The atmosphere is welcoming, designed to make every meal feel like a celebration. The restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor seating, and caters to a range of needs with delivery, takeaway, and private chef options available. Whether you’re stopping in for a quick lunch or settling in for a leisurely dinner, the service is professional and the food remains the focus.
With over three decades of experience and a Michelin Bib Gourmand on its wall, Roti by d’Tandoor on Jalan Damai is a reliable choice for anyone seeking genuine North Indian cuisine in Kuala Lumpur.
