The story
Flora’s Field Kitchen started as a restaurant in San José del Cabo, but after five years the owner made a pivotal decision: move the restaurant to the heart of the farm that supplied it. Today, dining here means sitting among the fields where your meal was grown. The commitment is simple—the kitchen only offers what it crafts, nurtures, and cultivates, resulting in a seasonal Contemporary cuisine that changes with the harvest.
The restaurant draws from a 150-acre ranch where animals are raised without hormones or antibiotics, and from a farm that cultivates over 100 varieties of vegetables and herbs. The growing season runs from November to June for heirloom vegetables, shifting to fruits like mango, papaya, and guanabana in summer. Everything is manual: soil is enriched with compost and mulch, pests are managed with chili pepper and garlic essences. Guadalupe “Lupe” Espinosa, the longtime ranching partner, raises chickens and pigs on open land with vegetable-based feed. Vegetable trimmings go to the animals, and manure returns to heat the compost—a closed loop that defines the operation.
The menu changes with the seasons but keeps some classics. Meat comes from the ranch; produce is picked daily. Within the restaurant, a wood-fired oven turns out 15 Neapolitan-style pizzas under the name Mama’s Pizzeria—try the Fennel Sausage & Mozzarella or the Margarita with house-made mozzarella. The Farm Bar offers craft cocktails infused with farm fruits and vegetables, such as the Farmarita (heirloom carrot infusion) and “Pelo de Perro” (a Bloody Mary with heirloom tomato water). For dessert, Flora’s Ice Cream Cart scoops house-made sorbets and ice creams using milk from the ranch. A grocery next door sells produce, meats, bread, and preserves for takeaway.
This dedication to honest, ingredient-driven cooking earned Flora’s Field Kitchen a Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2026—an award that highlights good quality and good value. It’s a fitting nod to a place where the distance from field to plate is measured in steps, not miles.
