The story
Since 1925, the corner building at Markt 10 in Aalten has been a place for the community to gather. What began as a local inn became, in 1998, the restaurant Olde Marckt under Albert and Helga Stoverink. Today, it remains a family story: their son, chef Bram Stoverink, now leads the kitchen, bringing a refined touch shaped by years in the two-star kitchen of De Lindenhof in Giethoorn. In 2026, this dedication was recognized with a Michelin star.
The kitchen at Olde Marckt is described as predominantly French in its foundations, enriched with international influences and a passionate focus on local products. Game from the region’s own hunting grounds and the best seasonal ingredients from the Achterhoek find their way onto the plate. Bram’s cooking is honest and elegant – pure flavors, no unnecessary adornment. Guests can choose from a three- to six-course menu, with dishes like Hamachi with tomato and basil, or kwartel (quail) with celeriac and pea. For those seeking the full experience, the "Bram's Carte Blanche" is a six-course surprise menu reserved in advance.
Olde Marckt balances high-quality dining with a warm, approachable feel. The interior carries a touch of hotel chic, with a clear love for wine and game evident throughout. Whether you come for a simple lunch, a glass from the well-stocked wine cellar, or the full tasting menu, the service is marked by genuine attention and a series of welcoming amuses. It is a place where classic tastes and contemporary craftsmanship come together, earning its place as a destination for seasonal, modern French cuisine in the Netherlands.
