The story
At Rue de la Plume in Alkmaar, the partnership between chef Luella Molenaar and maître-sommelier Madelene van Zoelen is the heart of the experience. Chef Molenaar, one of the few female head chefs in the Netherlands, brings a wealth of experience from top Dutch restaurants and international stages, including kitchens in South Africa and Hong Kong. Her modern cuisine is built on a foundation of seasonal, fresh ingredients, crafted into unique flavour combinations.
There is no à la carte here. Instead, diners are invited to choose a surprise menu, with options ranging from three to six courses. Chef Molenaar composes each dish around what is best at the moment, presenting a series of small, beautifully plated creations. Madelene van Zoelen, a trained gastronome-sommelier and vinologist, selects a wine pairing for each course from the restaurant’s carefully curated wine list, ensuring the flavours complement one another.
The restaurant’s atmosphere is one of calm and personal attention. Guests consistently praise the warm, enthusiastic service and the sense of being welcomed into a private dining room. The recognition from the Michelin guide, which lists Rue de la Plume as a Recommended restaurant, reflects the consistent quality of both the modern cuisine and the hospitality. It is a place where the focus remains squarely on the food, the wine, and the company at your table.
