The story
Opposite Amsterdam Central Station, inside the art’otel, Arca brings a fresh perspective to Portuguese dining. This is the first European restaurant outside Lisbon for chef Henrique Sá Pessoa, a two-Michelin-starred chef (for his restaurant Alma) and a familiar face from BBC’s Saturday Kitchen. At Arca, he presents a more relaxed concept: modern Portuguese flavours with Asian influences, served in a lively, informal atmosphere. The restaurant’s rapid acclaim—including a spot in the Michelin Guide Netherlands and a 13.5-point Gault Millau rating within its first six months—confirms its arrival on Amsterdam’s dining scene.
The menu is built for sharing, offering petiscos and larger plates designed to be passed around the table or enjoyed solo. Dishes such as Arroz de Lavagante (lobster rice) and Lírio (a fish preparation) appear alongside seasonal creations made with fresh ingredients. Guests can pair their meal with a signature cocktail or a wine chosen by the sommelier.
A few steps away, the ARCA Bar serves its own menu of bar snacks and petiscos, alongside a signature cocktail menu called “Course of Life.” Inspired by the art of Atelier Van Lieshout, the cocktails are designed to evoke memories and emotions, from the playful “Early Years” to the romantic “First Date.” The bar also offers breakfast and brunch from Tuesday through Saturday, making it a versatile spot from morning until late.
