The story
Domenica takes its name from the Italian word for Sunday – the day traditionally reserved for long, leisurely meals with family and friends. At this Amsterdam restaurant on the Noordermarkt, that spirit extends across the week. The kitchen works with seasonal produce and whatever local suppliers bring in, so the menu changes daily. Italian classics such as spaghetti carbonara appear alongside dishes that draw from the rest of Europe, keeping the cooking firmly rooted in the Mediterranean while leaving room for curiosity.
The restaurant earned a Michelin Recommended distinction in 2026, a recognition that speaks to the consistency and clarity of its cooking. Michelin’s inspectors noted the relaxed yet precise approach: a place where a plate of pasta can be as memorable as a more elaborate creation. The daily-changing chef's menu, available as three courses (€49) or five courses (€69), gives a sense of the kitchen’s range without demanding a full commitment.
The terrace is open every day for lunch, and from May onward for dinner as well – a sunny spot on one of Amsterdam’s liveliest squares. Inside, counter dining and table service are both on offer. Since early 2025, Domenica has also opened a wine cellar in the suggestive space of the Noorderkerk, just a minute’s walk from the restaurant. There, guests can book personalized tastings led by a sommelier, paired with small bites from the kitchen. The tastings are designed for groups of six to twelve and last about two hours, with the option to follow up with dinner back at the restaurant.
Domenica serves lunch and dinner Tuesday through Saturday, and a lunch-only service on Sunday with a selection of traditional Italian sharing dishes and classic pastas. Reservations open three weeks ahead, and a deposit of €20 per person is required – settled on the evening itself. For larger parties (six or more), a group menu is offered at €65 per person, covering antipasti, pasta, main, and dessert.
