The story
NENI Amsterdam introduces its signature Lebanese cooking to a converted Citroën showroom at Stadionplein. Haya Molcho launched the venture after establishing her original kitchen in Vienna with her four sons. Their initials, Nuriel, Elior, Nadiv and Ilan, form the name. The family describes the resulting atmosphere as balagan, a comfortable chaos where guests share bread without formal rules.
The open kitchen anchors the main floor. Chefs work a charcoal robata grill and a domed oven right beside the seating area. Diners regularly order popcorn falafel with tahini, smoky baba ganoush, and slow-roasted cauliflower dressed in romesco. Groups pass these bowls across the table alongside hummus and grilled skewers. Most return specifically for the shakshuka and house focaccia to round out the Eastern Mediterranean cuisine spread.
High ceilings and scattered lanterns soften the concrete walls. Potted fig trees sit quietly near the service counters. Above the dining room, the Lemonman Bar serves lemon and arak cocktails before dinner begins. This relaxed setup explains why NENI remains in the Lekker500 Top 500 guide across multiple editions. The consistent crowd reflects a straightforward approach to food and hospitality.
