The story
The Seafood Bar in Amsterdam delivers refined seafood directly from its original Van Baerlestraat location. Fons De Visscher launched his first fish shop in Helmond back in 1984. He translated that decades of trading into his first Amsterdam dining room in 2012. His children Pepijn and Fleur now share the daily operations alongside him.
A long marble counter displays chilled preparations while the warm kitchen remains visible at the rear. Guests typically start with generous Dutch shrimp croquettes or dive straight into the signature platter collection. The kitchen handles razor clams, North Sea crab pots, and half lobsters with minimal intervention to showcase the best seasonal seafood. Grilled sea bream served skin side up arrives crisp alongside buttery gamba and slow cooked scallops.
The dining room balances raw industrial walls with thick wooden table tops and heavy cloth napkins. A steady stream of diners fills the space without dampening the conversation. This consistent demand recently earned the venue a spot in the Lekker500 Top 500 rankings. Visitors appreciate the straightforward seafood cooking paired with fair pricing and reliable service.
