The story
Five years ago, Joey and Jody took a leap of faith and opened Restaurant Zenith in Apeldoorn. What began as a personal dream has become a beloved fine dining destination, where "discipline and hard work are translated into love and naturalness." The restaurant sits at the edge of the city center, in one of Apeldoorn’s most beautiful neighborhoods, with the Veluwe nature reserve just beyond.
Zenith describes itself as "a tribute to its surroundings." In an intimate, professional, and above all welcoming setting, the team honors nature in its purest form. The kitchen works almost exclusively with traceable, natural, and refreshing products, striving to be as organic as possible. Many ingredients come from their own vegetable garden or from local suppliers. Meat and fish are fully traceable, and the restaurant consciously avoids young animals like veal and lamb.
This philosophy of respect and purity defines Zenith’s Modern Cuisine. Chef Joey Stinissen brings it to life with dishes that balance beauty and depth. As the Michelin guide notes: "Joey Stinissen pleases the eye and the taste buds with crafted creations. Beauty rhymes here with depth. The chef has a preference for organic products and knows how to add just the right punch with exotic spice blends."
Guests can choose from surprise menus of four to seven courses, including the Zenith’s Culmination Menu, or order à la carte. Recent offerings include langoustine with citrus and dashi, Anjou pigeon with red onion and chicory, and a vegetarian sunflower seed dish with cauliflower and lemongrass. Desserts like tropical fruit with crème crue and shiso round out the meal.
The wine list is carefully curated, and the team works as a small, close-knit group where "people don't work for each other but with each other." The atmosphere is focused when needed, relaxed when possible.
In 2026, Zenith was awarded a Michelin star for its high-quality cooking. Gault Millau praised the kitchen for dishes that are "light, eye-catching, and original, with the right doneness and a deliciously varied repertoire of fine acids." It’s a restaurant where the ingredients speak for themselves, and the cooking never overshadows them.
For anyone seeking Modern Cuisine with a clear conscience and a sense of place, Zenith in Apeldoorn delivers. It’s fine dining stripped of pretense, rooted in the land, and served with genuine warmth.
