The story
In the quiet town of Bergambacht, Pieters Restaurant offers a dining experience that is both refined and genuinely welcoming. Chef Pieter de Ronde, an SVH-Meesterkok, and his wife Paula have created a space where the focus is squarely on the plate and the guest’s comfort. The restaurant, which opened in May 2014, occupies a converted 1907 double house, transformed into a cozy, 32-seat dining room where a window into the kitchen lets you see the action.
Pieter de Ronde’s career is marked by a dedication to quality. Before opening his own place, he earned a Michelin star at Cour du Nord and worked at prestigious restaurants like De Hoefslag and Villa Rozenrust. He even staged at Marco Pierre White’s three-starred The Restaurant in London. This experience is evident in the kitchen’s precise, yet unpretentious, approach. The restaurant’s Michelin star, awarded consistently since 2021, is a natural recognition of this mastery. Paula, his wife, brings her expertise in wine to the table, curating a thoughtful collection that complements the cuisine.
The menu is a direct reflection of the seasons, drawing on Modern French traditions and local ingredients from the Krimpenerwaard region. The cooking is described as “without fuss and full of flavor.” Dishes evolve constantly, but a sample menu might include langoustine with a mousseline and soy vinaigrette, or Iberico pork with vlierbloesem and pistache. The restaurant’s own garden supplies herbs and edible flowers, which find their way into the dishes and onto the beautiful terrace garden, where guests can enjoy lunch or dinner in the summer. The bread is baked in-house, and the butter is freshly churned from local Perkouwse butter.
