The story
At Huizerweg 1, Bistrôt Chapeau operates as a small “huiskamer restaurant” — a living room where guests are invited to feel at home while being thoroughly pampered. The warm, cozy interior is set with care, and the cheese cart, laden with the finest fromages, is a centrepiece of the room. It is the kind of place where the atmosphere and the food are in perfect harmony.
The kitchen is a pure expression of the classic French cuisine. Everything is made on the premises, from the sixteen sauces (including the foundational stocks) to the now-famous pâtés and the delicate madeleines. The menu reflects a deep respect for French gastronomic tradition, using only the best quality, organic ingredients, with taste as the primary compass. This dedication to craft and authenticity has earned Bistrôt Chapeau steady recognition, including a Michelin Bib Gourmand every year from 2021 through 2025 — a distinction that celebrates good quality, good value cooking — and the award has been renewed for 2026 as well.
The wine list is impressive, predominantly French with a few carefully chosen bottles from Spain and Austria. The team seeks out “mooie unieke pareltjes” — beautiful, unique gems — to complete the evening.
In warmer months, the idyllic terrace under a green plane tree offers a different kind of charm. Tables are laid with full linen, and diners look out over the picturesque village of Blaricum as the Gooi life passes by. Inside, air conditioning keeps the space comfortable year-round.
Bistrôt Chapeau also offers a traiteur service, allowing guests to bring the same French culinary experience home. Dishes arrive cold, fully prepared, with simple reheating instructions that take about ten minutes — a thoughtful extension of their kitchen’s work.
Additional honours include Gault Millau’s 14 points and two chef’s hats, the title of Best Terrace of ’t Gooi in 2020 and 2021, and the team’s status as a finalist in the World Championship of L’Oeuf Mayonnaise in Paris. Each recognition reflects the same philosophy: honest, classic French cuisine, made by hand, served with warmth.
