The story
Jeff's Farmhouse delivers award-winning international cuisine from a thatched-roof building on a dike in Terwolde. Jeffrey Fuhler rebranded the venue from its previous life as 't Nieuwe Diekhuus to reflect a shift toward accessible, family-friendly dining. Chef Ricardo Rozema, formerly of 't Nonnetje, now leads the kitchen with a philosophy centered on the simplicity of yesteryear. Rozema draws on produce from the restaurant's own vegetable plot to craft dishes that feel both grounded and thoughtful.
The reputation for quality dates back years in the Lekker500 guide, where the venue has maintained a Top 500 listing since 2020. Today's menu highlights include a mellow saté, a sturdy Farmhouse Burger, and the establishment's signature pancakes. These pancakes are described as legendary, based on a recipe shared from a sister site in Hoog Soeren. Savory plates feature tender cuts like the tournedos served with madeirajus, green asparagus, and bospeentjes, alongside slow-cooked lamsnek paired with a robust Provençal jus. Desserts balance sweetness with texture, such as a lemon curd dish layered with framboos sorbet and meringue. This blend of French technique and local produce shapes the restaurant's approach to international cooking, ensuring every plate balances refinement with approachability.
Inside, the space balances the historic character of the structure with modern comfort, creating a welcoming environment for families and dogs alike. A spacious terrace extends the dining area outward, allowing guests to watch the river flow beneath the open sky. The service team prioritizes a relaxed pace, encouraging visitors to linger over meals without feeling rushed. Wine lists showcase selections like crémant de Bourgogne and regional reds that complement the hearty portions. For special occasions, the venue hosts weddings and private events within these warm surroundings.
