The story
Step inside Het Weeshuys on Geertruidenberg’s Markt and the atmosphere tells you this is not just dinner. The team describes it as a "verwenplek" – a place to indulge, share stories, celebrate life, and make new memories. The service is warm and relaxed, the cooking creative and precise.
The building itself has a rich history. Guests are encouraged to look around and discover something new each time – whether it is the striking murals on the walls or the artful composition on the plate. Every detail is meant to stimulate the senses. That, the restaurant says, is "pure verwennerij" – pure indulgence.
Het Weeshuys focuses on seasonal country cooking, using the best produce from the region. The kitchen selects ingredients at their peak, then builds surprising combinations you would not think of yourself. Currently, there is no à la carte menu. Instead, guests are invited to sit back and enjoy a surprise sequence from the chef: four, five, or six courses, with optional wine pairings. The menu changes monthly. For lunch, a changing daily menu of two or three courses is available. The team is happy to accommodate dietary needs (vegetarian possible, though not fully vegan).
The restaurant’s consistent quality earned it a place in the Michelin guide as a Recommended restaurant for 2026. It is a recognition that reflects the kitchen’s dedication to flavour, development, and refinement – all delivered in an environment that feels both luxurious and unpretentious.
Het Weeshuys also offers a home-delivery service called ChefsThuys, for those who want to enjoy the experience at home. Whether for a quiet lunch, a celebratory dinner, or a gift, the restaurant aims to make every moment special. Free parking on the Markt is an added convenience.
