The story
Niemeijer is a restaurant where the menu begins long before the doors open. Hidden between woods and meadows in Drenthe, the restaurant tends its own vegetable garden. Over the years, the team has collected cuttings and seeds of root vegetables, rhubarb, strawberries, berries, and fragrant herbs. Edible flowers find their place, too. Everything grows at the rhythm of the seasons, and the kitchen uses as much of the garden's bounty as possible.
The à la carte menu is built around French technique and seasonal produce. Starters include oysters three ways, with oyster leaf, Granny Smith apple, and elderflower, or a steak tartare with white asparagus, smoked egg yolk, and piccalilli. Intermediate dishes range from artichoke with pasta, tomato, and morel, to eel in green sauce with pearl barley and citrus beurre blanc. Mains feature cod with fennel and celeriac, or entrecote with beetroot, dried strawberry, and Pedro Ximénez. Desserts such as crêpe Suzette and strawberry with rhubarb and verbena round off the meal.
On Thursday through Saturday, Niemeijer opens for lunch from 12:00 to 16:00 (walk-in until 13:00). A changing two-course lunch menu is available for €32. For groups of 16 or more, a set 3- or 4-course menu is offered, with prices from €55 per person. The restaurant can also be hired exclusively for parties of 20 to 48.
In 2026, Niemeijer received a Michelin Bib Gourmand, an award for good quality, good value cooking. The recognition reflects the restaurant's commitment to refined French cuisine in a relaxed setting, where the garden's harvest takes centre stage.
