The story
Het Roode Koper sits on a 9-hectare estate deep in the Veluwe forests of Leuvenum. The story begins over a hundred years ago, with a miller who collected copper buttons from old rags and sold them to build a house on the most beautiful hill in the woods. The actual history is that Count van Limburg-Stirum founded the estate in 1912, building a villa with an English landscape garden. After the war, the Van der Werf family took ownership and turned the estate into a hotel, which they still manage today.
The restaurant is led by top chef Dennis van den Beld. The kitchen focuses on modern cuisine, delivering a gastronomic experience that has earned the restaurant a Michelin recommendation. The Roode Koper is also a member of Relais & Châteaux and the Alliance Gastronomique, a collaboration of 40 top restaurants in the Netherlands and Flanders where craftsmanship, top quality, and culinary creativity are paramount.
The estate is surrounded by 2,700 hectares of forest maintained by Natuurmonumenten. Guests can walk the grounds past a heated outdoor pool, the coach house, a rose garden, and a vegetable garden. A private guide can lead walks through the Leuvenumse Bos, pointing out wildlife and local flora. This is a place where the modern cuisine is matched by the quiet luxury of the natural setting.
