The story

La Mère Anne, Hoorn – Michelin-Recommended Restaurant Since 1945

La Mère Anne

On the quiet border of West-Friesland and Waterland, just outside Hoorn, La Mère Anne has been serving guests since May 1945. What began as a post-war restaurant has grown into a destination that draws both locals and visitors to the village of Oudendijk. The setting is unpretentious – a standalone building with ample parking, outdoor seating for warmer days, and a spacious interior that adapts easily from intimate dinners to large parties and weddings.

The kitchen works from a philosophy of diversity and honesty. The menu is described as “divers, uitgebreid en regionale producten met een eerlijke herkomst” – diverse, extensive, and built on regional ingredients with a transparent origin. This commitment to local sourcing and straightforward cooking earned the restaurant a Michelin Recommended distinction for 2026, a recognition that aligns with its long-standing reputation for reliable, characterful food. The à la carte and the Michelin-choice menu both reflect this approach: no unnecessary flourishes, just well-sourced produce prepared with care.

Wine is taken seriously here. The restaurant counts five vinologists on its team, all working to present a wine list that balances interest with approachability. The goal is simple: enjoyable wines at fair prices, chosen by people who know their vineyards. That depth of expertise, rare even in fine dining, adds a thoughtful layer to every meal.

Beyond the dining room, La Mère Anne functions as a versatile venue. The “Partyhuis” offers a spacious, atmospheric setting for celebrations, while the “Vivre” wedding location provides a complete day experience for couples. There are also rooms for overnight stays, making it easy to turn a long dinner into a relaxed evening away.

Open Wednesday through Sunday, La Mère Anne remains a family-run affair – currently led by the Sijtsema family, who continue the tradition of warm hospitality that began more than seventy years ago. It is a place that knows what it is: a restaurant rooted in its region, confident in its cooking, and glad to see you at the table.
