The story
LIMES aan den Rijn in Valkenburg opens its doors to French cuisine through a central kitchen concept. Daan Reijngoudt and Dennis de Prie launched the venue in September 2019. They arranged the floor plan so dozens of seats face the active line. Guests watch every step beneath high ceilings while enjoying acoustically balanced surroundings.
The culinary program leans heavily on French cooking principles while prioritizing sustainable sourcing. Patrons often select the four to seven course surprise arrangement alongside seasonal selections. Fried scallops arrive with spinach, capers, kinnebakspek, and a peach ginger sauce. Slow braised ox tail rests on potato foam topped with a pasteurized egg yolk, while a dedicated vegetarian track ensures plant based ingredients receive equal attention.
Recognition from the Lekker500 guide reflects the steady quality served at this Valkenburg address. A large outdoor terrace runs directly along the Oude Rijn and offers direct mooring spots for visiting boats. Inside, a half open mezzanine called the vide hosts intimate gatherings for up to twenty four guests. The main floor splits into two quiet zones where larger parties dine without cross talk.
