The story
Patron-cuisinier and chef Danny Vanderhoven presides over the kitchen, crafting dishes rooted in classic French technique with a contemporary touch. His cooking respects the ingredient above all, following the seasons as fluidly as the nearby river Maas shapes the landscape. The result is a layered, personal cuisine that feels both grounded and refined.
The menu—whether the chef's tasting selection or the à la carte—reveals a deep passion for quality ingredients, clear flavours and perfect balance. A hand-cut beef tartare with curry and foie gras, pithivier of Mechelse koekoek with truffle, or a classic bouillabaisse all speak to this precision. The wine list is just as thoughtfully built, with a cellar of robust classics and impressive local finds, including exclusive bottles from the chef's own import, La Cave de Philippe.
Le Philippe earned a place in the Michelin guide quickly, alongside recognition from Gault&Millau. From early summer, the Provençal-style terrace—awarded by Chapeau—invites guests to slow down and enjoy the moment. As the team puts it: Chers amis, ça c’est le ‘joie de vivre’!
Whether for a seasonal Easter menu or a regular evening, dining here is an invitation to experience French cuisine at its most heartfelt and accomplished.
