The story

De Vijverhoeve in Sluis: Michelin-Recommended Classic Cuisine in a Farmhouse Setting

A Culinary Haven in Sint Anna ter Muiden

Tucked away between the lively towns of Sluis, Bruges, Knokke-Heist, and Damme, De Vijverhoeve offers a serene escape in the picturesque village of Sint Anna ter Muiden. Housed in a former family farmhouse, the restaurant welcomes guests with a warm, authentic atmosphere. Chef Bart Grahame and his partner Yori have transformed the monumental building into a destination for classic cuisine, where the charm of the past meets contemporary refinement.

Classic Cuisine with a Personal Touch

Chef Bart Grahame draws inspiration from the classic French dishes his father once prepared, adding modern ingredients and techniques to create a menu that evolves monthly. Seasonal vegetables from the restaurant's own garden and the surrounding region form the backbone of his cooking. The result is a menu that feels both familiar and surprising. Guests can choose from a four, five, or six-course Vijverhoeve menu, with dishes like smoked eel risotto with summer truffle, or baby lobster “a la nage.” For a more spontaneous visit, an à la carte selection is also available. Sommelier Yori carefully pairs wines to complement each course, enhancing the experience.

A Setting for All Seasons

The restaurant’s atmosphere is a key part of its appeal. The former living room of the farmhouse offers a cozy, intimate setting, while the beautifully landscaped garden provides a sunny terrace for lunch or dinner during warmer months. The entire terrace can be shaded with parasols, and a free private parking lot adds convenience. This combination of setting and skill has earned De Vijverhoeve a Michelin recommendation, marking it as one of the top restaurants in Sluis for those seeking refined, classic cuisine.

A charming spot hidden away in Sint Anna ter Muiden, one of the smallest towns in the Netherlands. Family restaurant De Vijverhoeve is surrounded by nature and features a beautifully landscaped garden where guests can dine on summer days. Owner-chef Bart Grahame works with vegetables and herbs from his own kitchen garden, and his partner, hostess, and sommelier Yori Gresel pairs them with the finest alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. From start to finish, we taste the dedication with which everything is prepared. The menu offers both set menus and à la carte options. We enjoy an orange juice-marinated mullet fillet that is then briefly seared. The pure flavor of the fish is accompanied by a brunoise of fennel and apple. Beside the fillet lies very thinly sliced savoy cabbage dressed with oil and vinegar, shaved radish slices, florets of white romanesco, green apple pearls, pickled red onion, thin slices of spring onion, and mayonnaise. The baked turbot served as the second course, with braised celeriac, crispy Zeeland potatoes, and beurre blanc, is equally delicious. The poured 2022 Ardèche Chardonnay by Louis Latour complements it perfectly. The late harvest of the grapes yields an aromatic fragrance. We detect notes of sage and hawthorn. We round off the meal with large dark red raspberries, a quenelle of white chocolate, panna cotta, and vanilla ice cream. Life is good in the Zeeland hinterland. Let Yori and Bart keep doing what they do best.

A monumental white farmhouse with an impressive French garden where guests can dine on summer days, along with a large terrace, situated in the picturesque village of Sint Anna ter Muiden. This family restaurant is run by chef Bart Grahame and his partner, hostess and sommelier Yori Gresel, who took over the culinary reins from Bart’s parents, Jan and Carolien Grahame-van de Vijver. The immaculately appointed dining room is housed in the former living room. Bart prepares classic French cuisine with contemporary influences, utilizing fresh vegetables and herbs from their own kitchen garden. They indeed pick to heart's content, collect eggs from their own chickens, and gather nuts from the trees. A new menu is presented every month. To start, we enjoy a salad of meltingly soft marinated burrata with capers, pimientos de padrón, and arugula. Summer on a plate. Next comes wolffish with cauliflower, herring roe, and homemade piccalilly. We would have gladly taken a jar of the latter home, it was so delicious. The dessert of generous Zeeland cherries with elderflower and white chocolate forms a fitting and pure finale. In short: the Grahame family has never heard of Zeeland frugality. What generosity, both in the attentive care provided by the black brigade and in the abundant portions of delicacies on each plate. Welcome to Lekker.
