The story
In de Oude Stempel occupies the former post office in the centre of Steenbergen – a building with history and character. The restaurant’s name, meaning “In the Old Stamp,” nods to its past as a place of letters and stamps. Today, the kitchen focuses on country cooking, prepared with care and served in a warm, welcoming atmosphere.
The restaurant has been awarded a Bib Gourmand by Michelin, a distinction reserved for restaurants that offer excellent value and a quality kitchen. The team is proud of the recognition, and it shows in their dedication to every plate. The cuisine is straightforward yet refined, rooted in the Dutch countryside but never predictable.
The owners describe their approach as an evening of “beleving en enthousiasme” – experience and enthusiasm. Service is attentive without being stiff, and the dining room balances comfort with elegance. Guests can choose to sit indoors with air conditioning or, when weather allows, on the outdoor terrace.
In de Oude Stempel is open Tuesday through Saturday from 18:00, with the kitchen serving until 21:00. It is closed on Sunday and Monday.
