The story
Buitenplaats Slangevegt occupies a registered monument dating from 1675, set directly on the banks of the Vecht river in Breukelen. The location, between Utrecht and Amsterdam, offers an uninterrupted view over the water. Guests arrive by car (free parking) or by boat, mooring at the restaurant’s own steigers. The property is one of the best-preserved buitenplaatsen (country estates) along the Vecht, with a terrace perfect for relaxed afternoons in the sun.
Chef Patrick Hooijschuur leads the kitchen, translating seasonal ingredients into dishes that balance tradition and creativity. The menu changes regularly, focusing on produce at its peak. Described as “innovatieve klassiekers” (innovative classics), the cooking combines classic foundations with a modern twist. Lunch and dinner are served in the elegantly restored interior or on the waterside terrace. The wine list is curated to complement each course, with sommelier guidance available.
Slangevegt’s consistent quality earned it a Michelin Recommended distinction for 2026. The award reflects the restaurant’s commitment to refined, seasonal modern cuisine in a setting where history and contemporary hospitality meet. Whether for a long lunch, an intimate dinner, or a private event, the team – led by manager Robert Beumer – ensures personal service and an experience that feels both special and unforced.
