The story
In the north of Bilthoven, just outside Utrecht, Le Nord occupies an authentic farmhouse built in 1885. The building has been converted into a welcoming French bistrot, where Patron Cuisinier Grégory Nicole and his wife Lieke have been at the helm since 2015. The setting is both rustic and refined, a deliberate choice for a chef who wanted to move closer to nature and spend more time with his ingredients.
Grégory Nicole grew up in Boulogne-sur-Mer and trained in Le Touquet before working in kitchens in Maastricht and Amsterdam. His cooking is rooted in the French tradition, but he applies a modern and fresh touch. The restaurant’s own description sums it up well: refined French dishes with a modern twist. The team works with honest, seasonal products and maintains close relationships with suppliers who share their commitment to quality. Le Nord is a proud member of Euro-Toques, the European culinary guild founded by Paul Bocuse and Pierre Romeyer, which commits members to cooking with natural products and honest communication with guests.
Guests can choose from a 3, 4, or 5-course menu, or order à la carte. There is also a special children’s menu, Les Enfants. The service is warm and unpretentious, with a team that sees every part of the evening as part of the experience. The restaurant’s dedication to quality has been recognized by the Michelin guide, which has awarded Le Nord its Bib Gourmand distinction. This recognition, along with its inclusion in Lekker and Gault&Millau, underscores the consistent quality of the French cuisine served here.
