The story
Since 1865, Restaurant De Lage Vuursche has been a welcoming fixture in the wooded village of Lage Vuursche, just outside Utrecht. What began as a venture by Willem van Oosterom has grown into a five-generation family business, where tradition and gastronomic values are carefully preserved. The current generation carries forward the legacy, balancing respect for the past with a clear eye on the future.
The kitchen brigade offers both lunch and dinner menus built around classic French cuisine. The extensive, varied menu features time-honoured dishes, prepared with the quality and consistency that have become the restaurant’s hallmark. A recent Plat Spécial – Salade Niçoise, served with a glass of wine and coffee – exemplifies the straightforward, elegant approach. Guests can also enjoy a selection of wines from the cellar, either indoors or on the terrace overlooking the forest.
In 2026, the restaurant earned a Michelin Recommended award, a fitting recognition for its polished service and refined cooking. The Dutch edition of Gault & Millau has also noted the restaurant, awarding 13 points and a chef’s hat. The team sees these honours as a validation of the warm, attentive hospitality that defines the experience.
The interior is classic and comfortable, while the terrace captures the tranquillity of the surrounding woods. Whether for a leisurely lunch, a formal dinner, or a private celebration, the atmosphere remains consistently gracious and unhurried.
