The story
Escobar stands apart from the many mussel restaurants in Breskens. Its colourful interior and easy beach vibe create an immediate holiday feeling — a place where the warmth of the coast meets the energy of shared plates. The kitchen draws inspiration from Spanish and Mediterranean traditions, with an adventurous touch that keeps regulars coming back year after year.
For five consecutive years, the MICHELIN guide has awarded Escobar a Bib Gourmand, recognising good quality, good value cooking. Inspectors praised the restaurant’s rich, Spanish- and Oriental-inspired menu, where tapas are woven into enticing sharing menus. The recognition reflects a consistent commitment to flavour without pretension — a meal here is meant to be enjoyed, not analysed.
The menu changes with the seasons, but certain dishes have become signatures. Start with crispy shrimp croquettes, then move to steamed buns filled with pork belly and a restrained, punchy kimchi salad. To finish, oven-warm pastéis de nata offer a sweet, flaky end. Everything is designed to be passed around the table, encouraging conversation and second helpings.
Escobar will close its doors on 1 May 2026, with the last service on Sunday 26 April. The owners have chosen this ending with gratitude, not necessity — a conscious decision after years of passion and growth. They thank their team, suppliers, and guests whose loyalty made the journey possible. It is a rare chance to experience a restaurant at the peak of its form, one last time.
